Luke 16:10–12 (KJV) He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?
God is intentional in preparing His children for greater responsibilities. Often, the things we consider small or insignificant are actually tests of our faithfulness, tests that determine whether we are ready for greater blessings, authority, and influence.
From Luke 16, we learn that God tests faithfulness in three primary areas: in the little, in the unrighteous mammon, and in another man’s possessions.
The opportunity that you consider small is actually a door to a greater blessing. God begins by testing how we manage small responsibilities before He can entrust us with greater opportunities. This could be as simple as completing a small task at work, being punctual. How you handle what seems to be small reveals your character and integrity. If you neglect small duties, you close the door to greater opportunities.
The second area God tests is the unrighteous mammon. Luke 16:11 asks, “If you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?” This can be seen in how you give your tithes and offerings, and how you honor your commitments with finances. Your financial integrity is a reflection of your faithfulness. God measures your readiness for spiritual and material blessings based on how you manage earthly resources. Small acts of faithful stewardship show God that you can be trusted with larger responsibilities.
Lastly, God tests your integrity with what belongs to someone else. Luke 16:12 says, “If you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?” This includes respecting others’ property, honoring your commitments at work, and serving responsibly in roles entrusted to you. If you are unfaithful with what belongs to others, God will not entrust you with your own greater blessings.
Faithfulness is the foundation for promotion, blessing, and divine favor. God is training and testing you in the little things, in your resources, and in your stewardship of others’ trust. If you prove faithful in these areas, doors to greater responsibility, spiritual authority, and true riches will open.
