Mercy is greater than forgiveness. Mercy and grace are used synonymously. The meaning of mercy is compassion, steadfast love. Psalm 136:1-4 says: “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
Mercy is that nature of God that commits Him to do good. Crying of mercy is calling the attention of God to do good. God responds when He hears a cry of mercy.
Six reasons why you need mercy
1
Mercy helps.
Genesis 43:14 says:
“And he said, ‘God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.’”
When there is a need, what you need is not money, is not people… what you need is mercy. Hebrews 4:16 says: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Psalm 94:18 says: “If I should say, ‘My foot slippeth’; thy mercy, O Lord, shall hold me up.”
Daniel 2:18 says: “That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.”
2
Mercy preserves anointing.
Psalm 61:7 says: “He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.”
2 Chronicles 1:8 says: “And Solomon said unto God, ‘Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.”
Psalm 18:50 says: “Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.”
Lamentations 3:22 says: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.” And Proverbs 20:28 says: “Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.”
2 Samuel 22:51 says: “He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.”
3
Mercy saves.
Hosea 1:7 says:
“But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.”
Genesis 19:19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
4
Mercy satisfies and sustains.
Psalm 90:14 says, “O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” Additionally, 2 Corinthians 4:1 says, “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not.” It’s a year of great Mercy. The mercy of God will bring the cloud of God’s presence
5
Mercy is our defence.
Psalm 143:12 says, “And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.”
6
Mercy deals with difficult situations and difficult people.
Luke 1:7 says, “But they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.” Additionally, 1 Timothy 1:13 says, “Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.”
7
Mercy favors. .
“The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man…” (Genesis 39:2). The way this world runs does not dictate what God wants. Mercy positions you where your dreams will come to pass. It was the mercy that advanced favor to Joseph (Psalm 102:13).
8
Mercy leads and guides..
“…I being in the way, the Lord led me…” (Genesis 24:27). “You in Your mercy have led forth the people whom You have redeemed…” (Exodus 15:13). Mercy does not lead into sin; mercy does not lead you to confusion.
9
Mercy builds and establishes.
“…I will have mercy on the place, and will cause the glory of the Lord to dwell there…” (Jeremiah 30:18).
10
Mercy gives birth.
It’s by His mercy that we are born again (1 Peter 1:3). When mercy is at work in you, something will be born in you.
