“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” Mathew 11:28-29 KJV
The indwelling presence of the Person of the Holy Spirit brings rest into the life of a believer. You may be disturbed or stressed because of what is happening around you today, but you must remember that God Almighty now dwells inside you, and His presence brings rest.
In today’s world, many live without peace because they don’t know the person of the Lord Holy Spirit. Consequently, bad news, difficult circumstances, or even challenges in marriage and family life can affect their lives. In our opening Scripture, however, the Lord Jesus invites us to turn our focus towards Him, saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
In John 14:27 (KJV), Jesus further assures us of peace, saying, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” This ministry that Jesus spoke of is now carried out by the Person of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit dwells in you in His fullness, He gives you peace and rest. Fear and trouble no longer have dominion over you.
The Bible also declares in Isaiah 32:17 (KJV): “And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance for ever.” This kind of peace will cause people to wonder how you can remain at rest in the midst of turmoil. This is only possible because of the presence of the Holy Spirit in one’s life.
As you become conscious of this reality and continually fellowship with the Holy Spirit, you will experience a peace the world cannot understand. This same peace will flow through you to others, making you a source of help and strength to those who are fearful and troubled.
PRAYER
Dear Lord Holy Spirit, thank You for Your ministry in my life. Through Your Word, I have learned that You bring rest and peace in my life. Help me to have a quick understanding of what You are doing in my life. In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
DEEPER REFLECTIONS
Mark 4:37-40 KJV
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
John 14:27 AMPC
Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled].
Mathew 11:28 AMPC
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]
