Carnality leads to death

Carnality leads to death
Thursday, September 18th
Apostle Geoffrey Okeny

Romans 8:6 (CEV) "If our minds are ruled by our desires, we will die. But if our minds are ruled by the Spirit, we will have life and peace."

The Word of God is very clear: to be carnally minded is death. Carnality means living by the senses, allowing your fleshly desires, emotions, or natural reasoning to dictate your life. Even though you are born again and carry the life of God in you, if you consistently live according to the flesh, you open the door for sickness, defeat, and death.

Carnality also means you respond to circumstances and situations based on your feelings and not what the word of God says. An example is a Christian who is fasting, but the flesh tells him to break the fast, and he goes ahead and eats. That is carnality. Actions like unforgiveness and hatred are examples of carnality because they are not consistent with the Word of God. Carnality in the life of a believer leads to death, even though you have received eternal life—the very life of God in your spirit.

As children of God, we have been given eternal life, the very life and nature of God (1 John 5:11–13). This means we are not ordinary humans; we are divine beings, born of God’s Spirit. Yet, when a believer lives by the desires of the flesh, ignoring the Spirit, they act like the world and reap the same consequences as the world. Galatians 6:8 (NIV) says, "Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

Beloved, God has not called you to a life of defeat, but to a life of victory and peace. Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 2 Timothy 1:10 (KJV) says, "But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
Therefore, refuse to be ruled by your senses or fleshly desires. Choose daily to yield to the Spirit, for to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

CONFESSION

I am led by the Spirit, not by my fleshly desires. I choose life and peace by yielding to the Spirit daily. I refuse to be ruled by my senses, and I am transformed by the renewing of my mind, walking in the victory and peace that Christ has given me. In Jesus' name, Amen."
