Practical ways on how to honor your parents

Ephesians 6:1 (TPT) says, “Children, if you want to be wise, listen to your parents and do what they tell you, and the Lord will help you.”When we read Malachi, God talks about us robbing Him in tithes and offerings. However, when we read that scripture in context, God is actually talking about robbing Him in honor.

Romans 13:7 (KJV) says, “Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.”Romans 13:7 (AMP) says, “Render to all men their dues. Pay taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, and honour to whom honour is due.”

Romans 13:7 (TLB) says, “So it is your duty to pay all the taxes and fees that they require and to respect those who are worthy of respect, honouring them accordingly.”Exodus 20:12 (AMP) says, “Regard (treat with honour, due obedience, and courtesy) your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land the Lord your God gives you.”

If you want to receive a blessing from your parent, you must learn to be their friend. Empty honour is honour that is just talked about, but not put into action. Most struggles you are going through may be rooted in dishonour.

Never joke with the wife of your father, even if she’s your age-mate. How you behave towards her can affect your destiny forever, either positively or negatively.Lying to your parent is a form of dishonour. Don’t cause pain to your parents.

Leviticus 18:8 (KJV) says, “The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.”If your father or mother does something wrong, that matter is too high for you to handle.

Matthew 15:4 (KJV) says, “For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.”When you act contrary to scripture, you open doors to demonic activity in your life.

Matthew 15:5 (NLT) says, “But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’”

Don’t allow your giving to the church or kingdom causes to limit you from giving to your parents. If you honor God or your spiritual father but don’t honor your parents, the Bible calls you a hypocrite (Matthew 15:7).
